We had our first Deep Edge Movie Night on Saturday night, watching Wo De Fu Qin Mu Qin (The Road Home) and enjoying Liz’s incredible popcorn. Everyone’s welcome to join us for a movie and snacks every second Saturday of the month at 7 pm.

O Come All Ye Stumblers! Merry Christmas from the Deep Edge Community

•December 22, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The Deep Edge Community wishes you all a Hope-filled Advent, a Merry Christmas and an Enlightening Epiphany. We have compiled some songs and poetry in our first seven-track EP titled ‘Come All Ye Stumblers.’ We have included some tracks here for you as a Christmas gift. Our recording studio was our living room and our equipment was a laptop with a built-in microphone so you can expect the recording to be rough around the edges, but still deep in meaning.  Click and enjoy!

Mystery

Be Here Now

MYSTERY

You can’t tell me there is no mystery, mystery, mystery / You can’t tell me there is no mystery / It’s everywhere I turn

Moon over Hebron guides the patriarch’s sleep, patriarch’s sleep, patriarch’s sleep / Moon over Hebron guides the patriarch’s sleep / Under the Mamre Tree

When you grow a smile on a child’s face, child’s face, child’s face / When you grow a smile on a child’s face / You are in the most holy place

The faithful bend their eighteen vertebrae, vertebrae, vertebrae / The faithful bend their eighteen vertebrae / To the Wall as they pray

We wake up hazy at the Call to Prayer, Call to Prayer, Call to Prayer / We wake up hazy at the Call to Prayer / And submit to Allah’s care

Infinity always gives me vertigo, vertigo, vertigo / Infinity always gives me vertigo / And fills me up with grace

This feast of beauty can intoxicate, intoxicate, intoxicate / This feast of beauty can intoxicate / Just like the finest wine

When the cloud is gone, Christ is all alone, all alone, all alone / When the cloud is gone, Christ is all alone / Upon my weary heart’s throne

Come all you stumblers who believe love rules, believe love rules, believe love rules / Come all you stumblers who believe love rules / Stand up and let it shine

(most lyrics by Bruce Cockburn)

BE HERE NOW

Be here now
no other place to be
or just sit there dreaming
of how life would be
if we were somewhere better
somewhere far
away from all our worries
well here we are

you are the love of my life

be here now
no other place to be
all the doubts that linger
just set them free
and let good things happen
let the future come
into each moment
like a rising sun

you are the love of my life
you are the love of my life
yeah you know you are

sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again

it’s all new today
all we have to say is
be here now
it’s all new today
all we have to say is
be here now

be here now
no other place to be
this whole world keeps changing
come change with me
everything that’s happened
all that’s yet to come
is here inside this moment
it’s the only one

you are the love of my life
you are the love of my life
yeah you know you are

sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again
sun comes up and we start again

it’s all new today
all we have to say is
be here now

Kaleo and Deep Edge Collide

•November 11, 2009 • 2 Comments

Earl and Daniel

The Deep Edge Home was blessed by the presence of the Rev. Earl Gibson: the Kaleo House hermit, a gardener of plants and souls, a Traveling Canterbury, an Episcopal Youth Missioner, a refined DJ and a friend to many. Kensington hikes and Cheeseboard Pizza will always be waiting for you here.

Deep Edge Now on Air BnB

Deep Edge Community now rents out the guest room on Air BnB for $40 a night.

Deep Room

Our guest room resembles a room at a retreat center with a twin size bed, desk, closet and two windows that welcome the sun and shower the space with light.

Deep Room 2

Our guest is welcome to relax on the patio, cook in the kitchen, eat in the dining room, and play piano in the living room. The space includes full access to a half-bathroom and scheduled access to a full bathroom.

Deep Porch

The safe and peaceful neighborhood of Kensington, the proximity to Tilden park (1/2 mile) and nearby trails and the fresh mountain air make this space ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy the Berkeley Hills.

Deep Porch 2

Also, a bus, which drives down to the city, stops right in front of the house.

Halloween / Housewarming Party

Halloween

Nothing warms a house more than hard cider and good friends and, of course “serious costuming, good food, good beverage, meeting the ‘rents, treating the trick-or-treaters, zombie tagging, haunted hut crawling, storytelling, and night walking good times” (in the words of Bono McClintock).

Yin and Yanglican

Yin Yanglican

The Deep Edge Community worshiped at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where we also enjoyed a great rendition of  Strauss’ Die Fledermaus as a communal activity after pizza at the Cheeseboard Collective. The Parish Hall of Good Shepherd also boasts a Taoist Episcopal Shield, inviting balance to the Yin and Yang of the Anglican Communion.

Yom Kippur

This morning we paid humble homage to the most important Jewish Holy Day, Yom Kippur, by gathering to sing “Shalom Chaverim,” praying some Hebrew prayers, reading Isaiah 58 and reflecting on a passage from Heschel’s “God in Search of Man.”
